Autumn Open House at Willowwood

- Sun, 09/15/2013 - 12:00pm
Autumn Open House

The coming of fall always brings a new palette of colors to Willowwood’s meadows and gardens. Sunday, September 15, 2012 from Noon to 4 pm, the Arboretum’s Horticulture Staff will host an “Open House”.

Visitors may stroll the meadows and hike the trails or rest and relax at the Stiles Observation Platform. Staff-led tours of the arboretum’s “September Garden Highlights” will be held several times during the afternoon. Bring your camera to capture the many species of birds and butterflies, both migrating and native, who call Willowwood home.

The Rosarie Garden should be in full late summer bloom - riotous color infuses this garden and it is a "do not miss!" Features wonderful ideas for container gardening and is a great spot for family photos too.

Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and sit in the peaceful Cottage Garden. Musical entertainment will be provided by the A.L.L. Trio, a well known local group from Chester, whose mix of folk, bluegrass and fan favorites will highlight the afternoon and may lead to a bit of dancing on the grass.

Also, The Tubbs House, an 18th century residence will be open to the public from 1 – 3 pm. Its furnishings and artifacts illuminate the lives of Henry and Robert Tubbs and Dr. Benjamin Blackburn, who developed Willowwood’s extraordinary plant collections.

You can "Ask the Expert" if you have questions on plants, fall gardening etc. Our staff is always helpful and ready to try to solve your toughest garden challenges.

Light refreshments. Plant sale.

Time: Noon to 4 pm. Free to the Public!
