Willowwood & Mother's Day - Perfect Together - Noon to 4 pm

- Sun, 05/11/2014 - 12:00pm

Mother's Day is one of the most delightful family events at Willowwood. The Gardens and Flowering Trees (including Lilacs - if Mother Nature is kind) are generally in Spring Bloom with lots of opportunities for family photo ops! Our neighboring Morris County Park Commission property, the Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center, will be also ready in its springtime splendor to provide a most beautiful backdrop as well. These remarkable historic gardens offer jewel-like gardens, lush landscapes, water features, and pristine meadows. You will feel as though you have been transported into another era.

Pamper Mom on her special day at Willowwood:
Stroll the gardens or join the garden and meadow tours by the horticultural staff of the Morris County Park Commission, as well as the Association of Professional Landscape Designers. The New Jersey Conservation Foundation will join this celebratory occasion by providing informative walks in the meadows between Willowwood and Bamboo Brook. (wear appropriate shoes).

Visit the Tubbs House: take advantage of this rare opportunity to tour the 18th century Tubbs residence, a remarkable historic home. Both self guided as well as curated tours available.

Bring a blanket or low lawn chair and listen to music by the A.L.L. Trio from 1:30 to 3:30 who will have you dancing on the lawn with their wide range of musical repertoire.

Specially chosen lilac plantS will be offered for sale.

Well behaved children may work on a craft gift for Mom.

The Willowwood Foundation Lilac Party

- Sun, 05/18/2014 - 4:30pm

The 'Lilac Party' is a lovely garden party in the tradition of the Tubbs and Dr. Ben Blackburn. They held their parties under the lilacs in the meadows, but this party has a tent - so we can party rain or shine!

Simply delicious refreshing Spring and Summer wines are available for tasting. Hosted by Chris Cree, Master of Wine (one of only 39 in the U.S.), 56 degree wine, who specializes in authentic, artisanal and affordable wines - all guaranteed to tempt your palate.

The Willowwood Foundation is proud to announce that once again “The Ten” will perform at this 19th Annual Lilac Party Garden Fundraiser. This Somerset Hills Renown (over 30 years) a cappella group "The Ten" will offer two performances. Anyone who has heard “The Ten” at a Lilac Party walks away with a lilt in their step and a song in their heart! "The Ten" - members of the University Glee Club of New York - are directed by Richard McGlynn of Far Hills, and entertain with 4 to 6 part harmony. Their eclectic repertoire of ballads, glees, spirituals, traditional folk sound contemporary and Broadway musical selections have brought resounding accolades from their audience. From ’Too Darn Hot’ to ‘Ramblin’ Boy’, ’Train’ and ’So Long, It’s Been Good To Know You’ their harmonies will leave the listener ’Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ to “The Ten” forever.

An Open Bar and Scrumptious hors d'oeuvres and cheese table sponsored by Peapack Gladstone Bank will make sure no one goes hungry as they walk through the gardens and peruse a Silent Plant Auction for both savvy and newbie bidders and gardeners. Always offered are unusual plants, hard to find veggies plus a few wonderful surprises from Willowwood's Horticulture Staff, our growing partners and private gardens.

The Willowwood Foundation celebrates its 19th Lilac Party Fundraiser in 2014. Proceeds are used to fund a horticulture intern program plus plantings and garden restoration at the Willowwood Arboretum.
