Ellie McClain

Ellie McLean studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and afterwards worked in the Art Department at TIME INC. There she designed many projects for the "TIME Education Program," as well as logos for several journalist's trips (including Nixon and Kissinger's first trip to China) and other graphics. Her work was shown in "PRINT Magazine" and she won the" Society of Illustrators Award for Learning Materials "in the 1970's.

While raising her three children, Ellie earned her teaching certificate, was a substitute teacher at St. Philip's School in Newark; and a substitute teacher at Gill St.Bernard's school for over 10 years. In addition, Ellie began painting portraits, which she continues to do today. Her work has become well known and featured on the website under "elliemcleanportraits."

Ellie has been an enthusiastic gardener all of her adult life. She loves growing flowers, perennials and edibles and has belonged to a garden club for many years. One of her favorite places to enjoy nature and gardens is Willowwood. Over the years Ellie has enjoyed this extraordinary place and has painted there often spending quiet moments studying the trees and flowers in the garden.

Willowwood Foundation seeks to advance knowledge, appreciation, and conservation of plant life and ecosystems at Willowwood Arboretum through curated botanical collections, educational programs, research initiatives, community collaboration and stewardship.
